Karlen Motorsports began in 1983 when Gary and Bonnie bought their first farm stock tractor an Allis Chalmers D21, which they referred to as "Old Faithful", pulling with All-Pro Pullers primarily at local county fairs. Gary and Bonnie shared the driver's seat in this tractor and it was even pulled a few times by Bonnie's father, Dale Campbell. In 1986, on the way home from watching pulls in Louisville, Kentucky, Gary stopped to look at Mark Schlegel's Pro Stock the "Widow Maker". Soon after, this tractor was purchased, and they got started working on it while they continued pulling "Old Faithful". Late that summer after totally rebuilding it, the new tractor "His Dream, Her Nightmare" made its debut pulling with All-Pro Pullers in the Pro Stock Class. "His Dream, Her Nightmare" was pulled over the next few years at brush pulls as well as the Ohio state level. In 1989 it was sold to Mike Shearer, right after it was pulled in Louisville, Kentucky by Gary at the National Farm Machinery Show. Two weeks later, Karlen Motorsports purchased Steve Smith's Pro Stock D21 Allis Chalmers, "Smith Farms". The Karlen's named this new tractor in the stables, "Temporary Insanity". This D21 was campaigned from 1990 to 1995 mainly with OSTPA, where in 1995, at the Stark County hometown fair of the Karlen's the tractor broke the ring and pinion, destroying the transmission and windowing the engine. The next three years were spent as rebuilding years and taking a small break off from pulling for family. After this time, the tractor got back out in the 1998 season and was now named, "Aftermath", referring to the large amount of change that had taken place to this tractor as well as the amount of "math" that went into these changes. The tractor actually made it's debut at The National Tractor Pulling Championship in Bowling Green, Ohio. "Aftermath" D21 was pulled in the Pro Stock class across the state with OSTPA over the next many years. In the fall of 2004, the Karlen's began building a Component Pro Stock, making it the fifth component Pro Stock in the country to hit the track. The new "Aftermath" debuted at the Summit County fair in July of 2005. This tractor was built with Agco Allis DT 240A sheet metal. "Aftermath" D21 remained in possession of the Karlen's and was sold in 2006. In 2004, the family built a John Deere 6030, named "The Green One" which allowed Kyle to get driving experience. By the end of this summer, Kyle started driving the Pro Stock at certain events and Kassi drove "The Green One". This tractor was sold after 11 months back to one of the original owners, Shane Parsons. From the time of building the Component Pro Stock in 2004, the Karlen's have pulled across Ohio and into Pennsylvania with OSTPA, NTPA, Full Pull Productions, and other local pulls. "Aftermath" has ran at The National Farm Machinery in Louisville, Kentucky and yearly at The National Tractor Pulling Championship in Bowling Green, Ohio. The driver's seat has been shared by Gary and Kyle over the years. In 2011, the Karlen's started a new avenue of pulling after building a John Deere 5020 Alcohol Super Stock named "BAD BLOOD". This tractor is primarily driven by Kyle. In the 2012 season, Karlen Motorsports pulled primarily with the NTPA running the Region II circuit with our John Deere 5020 Super Stock, BAD BLOOD. Which ended up winning the 2012 RNII Super Stock Points Championship. At the end of the 2012 season the 5020 was sold to Herm Musty. We have also been pulling our Agco Allis DT 240A Pro Stock, AFTERMATH. Aside from NTPA, we will also be pulling with the OSTPA and the Full Pull Productions Leagues.
